Altar

I created "Altar" in a style that I've been working on and improving upon this past year. Most of my recent artworks reflect my soft spot for technical design. These technical aspects come from expired, vintage patents just hiding out in the public domain. I decided to marry these long lost creations with my own art to create a rather unique visual experience. "Altar" is digitally hand-drawn, hand-embellished, and is my interpretation of a traditional Day of the Dead altar showcasing a sugar skull, candles, and beautiful marigolds. I overlaid Edison's telegraph and light bulb patents to elevate the importance of communication with lost loved ones. The trumpet emphasizes music and dancing because Day of the Dead is a joyous celebration of life!
